How to Use Faith

if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Both confession and faith of Christ is essential.  For Paul could have said– if you proclaim with your lips, yet he did not.  He uses the word confess which is the Greek word homologous and means ‘covenant knowledge’ (Strongs 3670).  The covenant between Christ and you is a knowing of the sure promise you make to Christ to speak clearly about Him, to live boldly in His Presence, and to give unselfishly to others just as He gives generously to you.  When you were Saved you came into covenant with Christ.

Should you be at a loss as to how to confess you may use the confession from the Service of Holy Communion, a traditional confession:  ‘Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved You with our whole hearts.  We have failed to be an obedient Church.   We have not done Your will, we have broken Your law, we have rebelled against Your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heart the cry of the needy.  Forgive us we pray.  Free us for joyful obedience through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.’

My friend, in the Name of Jesus Christ you are forgiven.  And as you have received the free Grace of forgiveness in Christ give similar forgiveness to others.
