Gather Up

Then Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted.  When they were satisfied, He told His disciples, “Gather up the fragments left over, so that nothing may be lost.”  John 6:11-12

Jesus blesses.  With 5 loaves and 2 fishes, Jesus miraclously feeds the over 5000 people gathered with Him who are there to hear Him and obey.  Look at Him, so caring about each and every one of His listeners, right down to the closing details of clean-up, saying, “Gather up the fragments left over, so that nothing may be lost..”

Note that the disciples gather up the fragments in honored respect for what God has given as Jesus instructs them to finish the task of caring.   They do not balk at being on the clean-up crew, they just move forward and do what He says.  Believers are finishers!  We are servants of Christ and Jesus lets us know that no job is too meaningless.

Jesus is so caring in His gathering up of people, the holy bread, the blessed fish. This reminds me of a woman I’m acquainted with who takes in her first special needs foster child, and from that one child she has added nine more special needs foster children to complete her family.  Like Jesus, so caring. She is filled with Jesus, the Bread of Life, and satisfied.
