Jesus prays, “I ask You to protect them from the evil one. They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. Sanctify them in the truth, Your word is truth. As You have sent Me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, so that they also may be sanctified in truth.” John 17:15-19
Jesus is praying this glorious prayer out loud so that we may hear not only what He prays for us His followers, but that we will pray like Him. Also, did you know that Jesus is continually praying for you while you are in this world? You are being kept in His heart and are foremost in His activity. It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that He is able to do this for each believer, simultaneously and perfectly.
He prays that the evil one will not knock you down, nor tumble you over, nor chop you off at the knees– that your faith in Him not waiver nor dip. Your faith is strong and you can do all things through Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior because He is perfecting you in His perfection; He is sanctifying you. Do not doubt nor fear; only believe in Christ and focus on serving Him as you help others.
Within all of humanity is a fight or flee mechanism and Christ over-rides that personal mechanism within you as you trust in Him alone for your strength. In other words, you do not need to make a choice either to fight or flee. Your choice is to always trust Christ that He is able to do through you all things. Do you need to aid one who is dying? Help someone who is confused or distressed? Do you need to explain to a child His love for them? You can do it. Just do it and lean into Christ, trusting Him completely and truthfully.
