How Not To Betray Jesus

After Jesus had spoken these words, He went out with His disciples across the Kidron Valley to a place where there was a garden, which He and His disciples entered.  Now Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place, because Jesus often met there with His disciples.  So Judas brought a detachment of soldiers together with police from the chief priests and the Pharisees, and they came there with lanterns and torches and weapons.  John 18:1-3

Our Lord has set His face, His full intent, to die on the Cross for your salvation and to have victory over any and all evil as His energized Resurrection Spirit will soon be poured out into the hearts and souls of those who love and obey Him.  Here, as He walks purposefully across the Kidron Valley where the huge rock boulders had been strewn by His and God’s creation activity, He takes His disciples into the Garden of Gethsemane before He is betrayed.

Just days later than this, in this Garden He will speak Mary Magdelene’s name to her and she will become the first to preach the Resurrection Good News of Christ our Lord and Savior.  But now, when betrayers come to arrest the Son Of God, betrayer Judas brings a detachment of soldiers — either a cohurt (600 soldiers) or a maniple (200) soldiers.  Jesus asks these who they are looking for, they tell Him they are looking for Him, and when Jesus says, “I AM He.” v. 6, they fall backwards.

When I AM JESUS reveals Himself to you then either you fall forward in Worship or backwards in shame because of your betrayal.  Psalm 40:14:  “Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after My soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish Me evil.”  The person who is not saved is ashamed in His Presence.  This means that a person can read the Bible, be religious and moral yet not have JESUS, nor completely believe Jesus Christ is the living Presence of God the I AM.
