Paul’s Custom— given by the Holy Spirit

And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three sabbath days argued with them from the Scriptures, explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and to Rise from the dead, and saying, “This is the Messiah, Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you.” Acts 17:2-3

Paul and Silas have left Luke behind in Philippi and will meet up with him again later. Here we see that after Paul and Silas have passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia (cities in Macedonia) , they stop in Thessalonica. As is Paul’s custom (led by the Holy Spirit), Apostle Paul goes into the synagogue for three Jewish sabbaths to prove through Old Testament Scriptures that Jesus is the Messiah.

Scriptures foretell that Jesus is born in Bethlehem– Micah 5:2, Jesus born of a virgin– Isaiah 7:14, Jesus rejected by His people– Psalm 118:22, Jesus suffered with and for sinners– Isaiah 53:12, Jesus did miracles– Isaiah 35:5-6, and there are 300 more prophecies fulfilled in Jesus from the Old Testament. Apostle Paul uses Scripture to prove to listeners in the synagogue that Jesus is Messiah, King of Kings the Son Of God.

A few of them were persuaded and joined in believer’s faith with Paul and Silas. Also, a lot of principle Greek women listened, are saved, and then take up the Cross of Christ for true faith which includes persecution. To receive faith by hearing Paul witness and testify to Christ alive and in the giving of the Holy Spirit for New Birth is convincing to those who open their hearts and minds. The saved ask Christ to be their Savior and Lord and are His from that moment onward.
