Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, so that times of refreshing may come from the Presence of the Lord, and that He may send the Messiah appointed for you, that is, Jesus, who must remain in heaven until the time of universal restoration that God announced long ago through His Holy prophets. Acts 3:19
Through Spirit you have dawns of understanding, refreshment of Spirit’s blessings, and inwardly are strengthened by Christ’s total love for you. Let me offer you one example which matches up with our Scripture. I had a weak man in one of my early Churches who would often turn to alcohol when life threw challenges his direction.
During these times he was still coming to Church, supporting his wife and children in their Christian beliefs, and encouraging others to use faith in Christ yet he refused and rejected faith for himself as more and more he relied on alcohol as his friend. But alcohol was enemy. Each time he turned to alcohol it took him into darkness and desperation.
Then Holy Spirit grabbed him by the collar of his mind and shook him awake one afternoon. He fell on his knees with regret and repentance in his messy kitchen to recommit his life to Jesus. Picking up the phone he called me and explained, rejoiced, and never turned to alcohol again because he now had an aversion to anything that was not Spirit blessed. Jesus’ love filled him to overflowing and kept refreshing him.
You see, Spirit directs you to Jesus’ loving best as your heart is aligned to Jesus’ love through faith in Him. Use faith.Through repentance we acknowledge our ignorance of sins before our Heavenly Father, and through Jesus Resurrected are cleansed of all unrighteousness– then come our times of refreshing! Your refreshment is found when you align your heart’s desires with Christ and the Holy Spirit.
And by faith in His Name, His Name itself has made this man strong, whom you see and know’ and the faith that is through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. Acts 3:16
Peter is asking you if you see the man lame from birth who has been completely healed by Jesus Christ? As you see him, do you want to receive Christ and be a part of His Kingdom? Kingdom health occurs from the inside out. When your soul is cleansed by Jesus then the outward result is health. Does this mean that should we be born with any disease or infirmity that we can achieve perfect health in Jesus Christ? Yes it does.
While the lame man’s healing occurs instantly you also learn from Scriptures that there are some healings that occur over a matter of time. Peter had a healing that occurred over time. This miracle of healing is shown to you so that you may understand that using the Holy Name of Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior out-loud every time as you pray prompts the Holy Spirit’s delight to shower blessings upon ones in need.
The Salvation Kingdom Principal is at work here. Jesus died on the Cross bearing your sin and disease so that you are free to enter abundant healthy life with Him. Faith and full trust in Jesus Christ is your operating mode for life. Jesus’ Resurrection gives you vitality, joyful demeanor, inner strength, and a healthy mind when you use your faith. Your faith in action is needed in His Kingdom, for your ministry is vital to other’s health.
When Peter saw it, he addressed the people, “You Israelites, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk? The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our ancestors has glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate, though He had decided to release Him. But you rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer given to you, and you killed the Author of Life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. Acts 3:12-15
Peter gives credit and praise to Jesus Christ, who healed the man born lame, then calls them to repent for killing the Son of God. Who killed Jesus? Those who have wholly rejected the One who God sent to save us. Similarly and sadly, when you choose to align yourself with the evil one then you have rejected God’s Son too and are in need of repentance.
Repentance is to be sorry for our sin then turn our whole selves unto Christ– Who willingly forgives, He accepts us just as we are, and He gives us unmerited love (grace). Jesus Christ is love. He then takes us to be His loved ones, marks us within with the sign of His cross, and fills us with Holy Spirit life. We experience new birth and from that moment on are committed to doing the work of the Kingdom of God.
God our Heavenly Father is so pleased by our new birth in Christ. To this I am witness.
All the people saw him walking and praising God and they recognized him as the one who used to sit and ask for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. Acts 3:9-10
They all knew this 40 year old man who had been lame from birth [now healed] as they watched him leap up, jump around, and sort-of dance before them praising God. What wonder they must have felt indeed! Surely most of these faithful temple worshippers had shared their money, prayers, and kindness with this man.
Joy is contagious when the Spirit moves within our groups. In response, Peter preaches a second sermon. Remember that now every time Peter preaches he points us to Christ’s Resurrection Joy. Joy is contagious when Spirit shows you what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is visibly doing within others to heal them, transform them to be more like Him, and fill them with His compassionate Love.
Just as you were tickled as a child, the joyous Love of the Spirit causes you to laugh with delight, wonder, and amazement. Spirit desires that your heart be lifted up to God in praise as Spirit shows you events in others that are holy experiences– sometimes sized tiny and other times just grand like the 40 year old man. Spirit will show you today, each day, all day long what our wondrous Lord Jesus is delightfully doing for others. And what He’s doing for others He will do for you.
When he [man lame from birth] saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked them for alms. Peter looked intently at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the Name Of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk.” And he took him by the right hand and raised him up; and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. Jumping up, he stood and began to walk, and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. Acts 3:3-8
Power of Love ignites when Peter says, “Look at us.” The lame man fixes his attention on them. The man is expectant. They start up his Holy Spirit healing with the Name Of Jesus Christ. His Name is power and mighty today! As Christ’s disciple you too may give in the power of Love using the Holy Name Of Jesus Christ alive and transforming.
Spirit poured out in Love’s power both blesses for healing and for Christ’s service for a lifetime. Spirit is with us in our world today to convict and convince non-believers of Christ’s power alive within souls and to restrain evil in our world. Our grateful response to Spirit’s healing is to walk, leap, praise God. You always receive healing from Spirit; there is always either an inward or an outward healing.
Presently in Scripture, Spirit’s outpouring is forming Church in Jewish hearts in Jerusalem. Later we’ll see the Holy Spirit fall on the hearts of the Gentiles, then go to everyone in the world through believers. Love’s power found in Christ Resurrected fills those who repent and turn over their entire lives to our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.Believers become family to us in the Power of Love.
Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. Acts 2:46-47
Day by day we live in expectation of who is next to be saved by Holy Spirit power. Knowing that in Christ you can do all things, having your soul redeemed, and having Spirit guide your speaking, teaching, and holy living brings the gladness of your generous living. All that you have belongs to God and is to be shared with believers who have need.
Goodwill to each person you meet is the key to discipleship. Out of the fount of God’s love your generosity flows into lives of others who need to see Jesus in action through your life’s example. Using the power of the Spirit, grow in your understanding of how to be His disciple through Scriptures and Grace.
Day by day expect miracles, His holiness to work, and blessings to shower. In constant conversation with Jesus be led. And through the breaking of bread know Jesus’ delightfully alive Presence with you.
Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Acts 2:43-44
Last night Spirit sent me to Pauline’s room where her dear daughter stood rejoicing for her Mother’s life. Minutes earlier Pauline had gone to heaven. Joining in the praise and thanksgiving, daughter and I spoke with awe within the Spirit’s Holy glory left behind as Mighty God took her heavenward, relieving her of great suffering.
While alive, Pauline had received many wonders and signs from Christ in her lifetime, Spirit had gifted her with speaking in tongues, and her daughter’s praise for her Mother’s joy-filled life is glorious. From Spirit Pauline received dying grace.
Spirit makes us abundantly alive in Him as Spirit fills us to overflowing– using Spirit opportunities to rejoice and praise together, knowing wonders and signs, and Spirit transforming us to be like Jesus. Wonders and signs continue to be done by His apostles today; we are so very grateful to Christ. And having all things in common, we are to freely give to one another without expectation of reimbursement.
And he [Peter] testified with many other arguments and exhorted them, saying, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Acts 2:40-42
The Holy Spirit is like fire within the hearts of those who learn that all God’s prophecies about the Grand Plan come true in Jesus Christ Resurrected. This Living Spirit to which they respond to that day causes 3000 to be Baptized and fully anointed with the Spirit of Truth. We marvel not at the number of persons giving their lives in commitment to Christ but are in awe of the Holy Spirit’s power to convict, convince, and commandeer lives.
Peter’s great preaching which reveals Christ simply sows the understanding and the Spirit grasps their hearts to uplift them into the Almighty God’s Holy Presence. Christ is the only Way to God. Spirit is glorious! Spirit gives the complete fullness of God’s love for us, so much so that our longing for love is quenched and our joy excels in the Name of Jesus Christ.
The miracles and healings, the casting out of demons, the teaching which the apostles bestow to the new converts to Christ allow these folks to experience the first real freedom that they have ever experienced in their lives. It is such for you also. Christ’s freedom instills within you ways to use your faith in Him so that you are not afraid, timid, nor hesitant to use the Spirit. Using our faith boldly is what we do; the Spirit is on fire within us, believers in Jesus Christ Resurrected.
Peter said to them, “Repent and be Baptized every one of you in the Name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the Promise is for you, for your children and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to Him.” Acts 2:38-39
Holy Baptism is the action that you trust God to forgive your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. Baptism is for all ages of people. We Baptize our babies so that they are brought into right relationship with God the Heavenly Father and so that they will be led from infancy by the Holy Spirit to live in Jesus Christ’s love, grace, and guidance. There is no greater blessing you can give to your children than to Baptize them and then teach them the life of Jesus from the Scriptures.
From Old Testament times, as those who were led by the one True God were obedient, so too we are given the Promise of the Holy Spirit when we repent and turn to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. In an Old Testament witness Samuel says, “Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.” (1Samuel 3:9) In a New Testament witness Thomas says to Jesus Resurrected, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28) All of God is revealed in Jesus Christ and the Promise of full forgiveness along with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit into our hearts is through repentance and Baptism.
By the Holy Spirit’s indwelling in your soul you have Jesus Christ alive to depend upon. This causes you to see and understand Christ’s Way in you and in the world. Trust in what Jesus calls the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit. Spirit speaks within your being to reveal what Scripture says, what God is doing, and uplifts your witness to God’s Son actively correcting your failures, faults, and flaws. In the Name of Jesus Christ you can do all things.
I saw the Lord always before me, for He is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken; therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; moreover my flesh’s will live in hope. Acts 2:25
Peter speaks Truth here in reference to Psalm 16:8-11 to point out that David was prophesying that the Messiah was to be in his lineage. The Jewish crowd that is hearing Peter knows the Savior’s prophesy as Peter is Holy Spirit led to reveal Jesus Christ Risen to them. God had sworn a oath with David that God would put one of David’s descendants on the throne.
Jesus of Nazareth is that descendant and God raised Him from the dead. The Holy Spirit at Pentecost is testifying to Jesus Christ’s Resurrection! Peter calls them to task saying, “Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made Him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified.” v 36. They crucified him and Peter calls them to yield their hearts to Christ alive.
Like them, when you realize that your sins have crucified Jesus then you are ready to repent, be Baptized, give your life to Him. Jesus gave everything for you– He suffered and died on the Cross to take on your sins so that you now have a direct Way to God through Him. Holy Spirit affirms this within our souls that it is Truth. Alleluia!
